Perhaps the most important part of the process is implementation – getting it done!

To recap:

In part 1, we spoke about Success. Ultimately success must be measured against some predetermined goal or objective. The definition of success involves or assumes the progressive realisation of worthwhile, personal, and predetermined goals.

In part 2, we discussed the Planning Cycle. The planning cycle involves developing ideas, thinking, acting, and results. It is a cycle in that all four steps must be taken and in a continuous process. Each step is also contingent on each other and 'learns' from each other – we gain wisdom from results which improves our ideas and thinking.

In part 3, we looked at Goals. Our focus was on the positive and negative goals. Objectives we move towards and fears we try to avoid.

Implementation is the key to turning a useful and perhaps 'thinking' process into reality. It converts your goals and strategies into useful actions to generate results. Without implementation it was just a dream or wishful thought.

Key to implementation is:

  • Developing a process to communicate the goals and planned course of action to all stakeholders including team members;
  • Ensuring all stakeholders, including you, take ownership of the plan;
  • Establishing key milestones which breakdown the goal into digestible components and allows the monitoring of progress;
  • Reporting processes which measure results against objectives or goals (this may include measuring distance from the 'stick' or feared items);
  • Attaches dates and timelines to each step; and
  • Empowers you to get it done.

There are many systems and tools that can help you manage the implementation and track your progress.
