Medical Centre

Question:

I'm a pharmacist and the landlord of the pharmacy asked if we're interested in opening a medical center within the shopping center. I'm very interested but I don't know where to start. Can you give me some guidelines? Thank you very much!

Expert Response

Although the prospect of being in close proximity to prescribers is attractive, the decision should be based on the occupancy costs associated with the location. In developing your business plan for such a location, you should determine what the prescription capture rate will be.

Capture rates vary depending on the 'setup' of the site (entry and exit of patients) and the prescriber volume. Not all medical centre pharmacies are a gold mine! However, professionally, they can be very rewarding.
